Clinical Effect of Fenoverine (Fexadin^(¢ç)) on Irritable Bowel Syndrome







Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the clinical effectiveness of fenoverine (Fexadin¢ç) in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. We reviewed 25 patients with irritable bowel syndrome who were visited to Chunghnam National University Hospital for 6 months from March, 1991 to September 1991. They were administered at doses of fenoverine 100mg tid for 4-8 week.
The results were follows
1. Initial symptoms of patients were abdominal pain (88.0%), frequent defecations (76.0%), abdominal distension (68.0%), flatulence (52.0%) and constipation (12.0%).
2.. The effective rate of fenoverine on each symptoms were abdominal pain (81.8%), abdominal distension (82.4%), diarrhea (74.0%), flatulence (66.9%) and constipation (31.1%).
3. There were not developed any serious. symptoms, signs and laboratory abnormality suggesting side effect of drugs.
In conclusion, fenoverine was considered and effective and safe drug in the treatment of subgroup (abdominal pain and diarrhea) of irritable bowel syndrome.
